Seems like forever ago, after overnighting at Mum’s one Friday, I woke to hear moaning. Bleary-eyed, I saw my mother (@ 69 yrs young) swerving, slamming alternately into the right, then the left walls down the corridor to the kitchen. Mum’s head hung limply. Her face was so pale, expressionless and her eyes vacant. Mum’s legs buckled under as she stumbled trying to support herself. This was the first of 2 strokes to strike in the next 48 hours. She adamantly refused medical help, rallied Saturday afternoon, took a brisk walk. I overnighted and woke Sunday to “stroke replay”. Mum careening into walls again! Mum visits a neuro-physician and her CAT scan confirmed 2 strokes. She left the hospital unsteady, but refusing assistance, gripping a cartia prescription. Old school, anti-drugs that she is, it was promptly binned in the nearest trashcan, on the premise that her daughter (that’s ever-patient me) being a nutritionist, could improve on cartia. I know better now, but the neurophysician should have guided her to physiotherapy and counselling, not merely written a script for a fancy and more expensive version of aspirin.
Well – actually, Mum turned out to be right. I drew up a nutrition plan. Ensured ooodles of essential nutrients, plus morning, noon and night juices. To thin the blood, I replaced cartia with evening primrose oil and added Spirulina powder to the morning juice. Yes, she did flabbergast the neuro-physician with her rate of recovery. We failed to mention that she had binned her prescription. Side effects were her occasional, sudden exhaustion, slurred speech, severe apathy, sudden/serious crankiness and memory lapses, including word/phraseology scrambling (aphasia).
I burrowed, researched and discovered Bach Flower remedies. I enrolled, studied and qualified as a Bach Flower Therapist. Filed under the ‘molly’s recipes’ on this blog is a page titled: ‘molly’s bach flower stroke remedy’, where I’ve provided the stroke remedy I created and make-up for Mum that works magic for the after-effects of her stroke, the apathy, slurring, fatigue and aphasia, cheers catchul8r molly
